The Babby is watching me count all the money I had put aside from selling stuff on Craigslist.  There were alot of singles so it looked like a whole bundle of money.  He asked “Is that the money you saved with Geico”.  Taken straight from the adverts on TV which star a wad of money with googly eyes.  Made me laugh.  I really hope I remember how funny that quote was years to come from now when I look back.

Parade of Seasons

Today the  Babby’s school held a Parade of Seasons.  A couple of weeks ago a homework sheet went home where each student would decide which season they would like to be part of and what they would like to be to represent that season.  The Babby decided he would like to be a Popsicle and that made him part of the Summer parade.

The weeks leading up to the parade have been exciting for him.  This last weekend we made his costume together.  He even painted it himself with some paint that i infused mandarin scented oil into.  “Now everyone will think I am really a Popsicle because I even smell like one”.

This morning he couldn’t wait to put his costume on.  When he got to school he made all his friends smell it.

I waited in the Library along with the Goggy, the Nani and all the other Parents.  Then we heard the sound of kindergartners gushing into the library.  The parade had started and they all marched through with pride and smiles all over.  It was just about the cutest sight.  Then I saw the Babby.  He was at the front of his season, holding the summer sign.  I was so proud.   Infact I am still feeling really good for him, as I know he must be so excited to be the summer line leader.

At the end I said to a fellow parent “isn’t it amazing how a little construction paper, cardboard and paint can turn into such magic when your 5.”

Last night I looked back at some home videos of the Babby. OMG was he a cutie.  All the memories came flooding back to me.  I just felt so lucky to have both my boys.  It really feels they each are a piece of my heart.  I hope they always know just how much I love them, and nothing to me is as important as their well being and happiness.

About the Water Bunnies

5 is such a wonderful age.  Its a world where facts are being learned at a mile a minute and magic still thrives.  It is also an age where it is just inconceivable to not know something.. everything has an explanation.  Here is one example.

While the Babby was playing in the bathtub I decided to ask him “How do we get water in the tap?”  .

There are water rabbits that hop around on land and water.

It was at this point that I knew this was going to be something i would want to write down so I asked him to stop while I got a pen and paper to write it all down.  So I repeated it back to him “There are water rabbits that hop on air and water”

“No, they don’t have wings silly.  They hop on land and water. ”  ” They make boroughs that go from the sea to the pipes that lead to everybodies houses.”

To which I said if everybody uses water from the sea, how does the sea get its water?”

“Well the water bunnies make boroughs that are connected to the drain which makes it back to the sea, and then it starts all over again.   Errrrr, can you erase that…  The sea CLEANS up the water and THEN it all happens over again.”

The natural question from me is “How does the sea clean the water” to which his response was (quoted)

“Example, the whales have lots of hairs that turn into lungs, which makes it easier to swim around in water (self corrects himself) Those are water lungs.

Well the whales are so big, RIGHT!!! sometimes sharks are also big and they try to scare the whales, but the whales scare the sharks.”

So I asked how does that clean the water?

“Oh, the skin (Whale skin) has suction cups.”

“Ok Babby” I ask “Where does the rain factor into this?”

“So you know what the rain shadow is, a cloud.  A cloud comes by a mountain and the desert behind it is as dry as a desert.  The mountain sucks up all the moisture and the other side of the mountain is as dry as a desert.  The mountain leads all the way to the big sea.  The cloud gets the snow or the water from the sea, it takes it to the mountain and it turns it into rain or snow.  And then the mountain catches all the moisture leaving the other side of the mountain as dry as a desert.  And with no water over there either.  Then the mountains lead back to the sea.  It’s Kinda like a Sea Circle.  And that’s all about the rain shadow.”

I later asked him about the water bunnies.  I was curious as to how they look as I had never seen one.  He told me they were very very very shy.  But they are also very cute.  I said they couldn’t possibly be as cute as my two boys.  The Babby replied yes, they are even cuter, but not as cute as the Baby (referring to the Goggy).

I was tempted to teach him about the water cycle and then decided it would be nicer for him to have his water bunnies a while longer.  He’s growing so fast as it is.

Ugh…. It smells like a Rhino POOP!!!

For the past month or more the Goggy has taken to dumping his milk or whatever he is drinking out whilst in his car seat.  Which in turn leads to a ton of commotion from me frantically trying to clean the mess up before it dries and becomes a weird stench in the car.  A smell that the Babby aptly refers to as “OMG its stinks like a Rhino POOPED in the car”.  Each time the Goggy does this I tell him it is naughty and he shouldn’t do it.  Each time he repeats back to me “Baby no drop Mikky” “Okay Mommy”.   Then he gives me that big 2 teeth smile that says “I’m so cute that even if I do it again you’ll forgive me”.  The sad part is I will.

Little paleontologist decided he wants to become an author when he grows up.  The Babby has gone through a couple of career changes in his lifetime, the major ones that stick out are: software engineer (after all what child doesn’t want to be just like daddy), Paleontologist, he has been asking for quite some time now what he needs to do to become a paleontologist.  Now this morning he asks me to help him become an “Author”.  A recent book project his been the inspiration for this shift in career choice.  I have to say I am very impressed by his enthusiasm and want to take things further, I really love that passion he develops that motivates him to dig deeper.  I wonder how many more careers he is going to go through before he finds his true calling (or if he really does end up being a paleontologist that writes stories for a hobby).

Trick or Treat 2008

This year was Goggy’s first time out trick or treating.  Last year Babby went out collecting all the candy and Goggy stayed at home to help Mr EB with the distribution side of things.

I’ve been involving both the boys in all events that lead up to this night, they chose their pumpkins, bought the candy with me, heck they even chose their own costumes online this year.  Babby is a T-Rex and Goggy chose his own Triceratops costume.  You could say the excitement of this night has been building for quite some time.

Goggy has been saying Trick or Treat all day.  I’m not sure he really knew about the Candy.  Sure he’d seen a couple of programs on nick jrabout it, but nothing compares to the look of realisation on his face after the first house.

He let go of my hand and went on ahead as if to say its ok mommy I’ve got this.  I have to admit it was cute watching this little triceratops wander out into the darkness on a quest to find more candy.  Especially as his overstuffed tail would wiggle as he walked.

At the first house the people were sitting out in the driveway so this next house was his first doorway.  Babby (an expert at trick or treating) rang the doorbell and stood back.  They opened the door ready with the bowl of candy and both my sons said “trick or treat”.  I was so proud that Goggy had picked it up so fast.  Then he went ahead and walked right in.  The concept of just walking away after getting the candy went right over his head.  It took a couple more houses before he really got the hang of things.

I was really impressed with the night as a whole.  Babby was great as usual.  So polite and well mannered.  It made my heart sing when i saw him chase down a girl that had unknowingly drop a piece of candy.  She was a little scared at first when he finally caught up with her and then he said ” Its ok, I just want to give you this candy you dropped”.  Moments like that make me wanna hug the babby all over.  So I did.

This year I decided to give out pencils and stampers as well as the candy, I actually heard little voices saying looking mommy they just gave me a pencil… Makes it all worth it… I hope I remember to do the same next year.

They both enjoyed many of the fruits of their labor that evening and anything that ends with a happy dance done by both the boys has got to be a good deal.

I have a feeling Goggy is not going to understand that this is a once a year thing.  I better go hide the costume.

Note to self.  If we are in AZ next year choose a costume that is not so heavy or warm…  Goggy was sweating buckets.
